Stamford Park Infant School get the oomagoo treatment

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

We like to do a good turn every now and then at oomagoo, so when I was approached by my sons schol to help them with their web presence, I was only too happy to help.

Stamford Park is one of those gems hidden in the streets of Hale, over 100 years old, and packed full of great teachers and lovely kids. What they had to represent their school could actually make your eyes bleed. It was in desperate need of some love and attention to breathe some life back into its online presence, and provide the parents with a website which was up to date, actually full of relevant information, and wouldn’t need a visit to A & E Optical department.

So with a million notes for Alex (one of the Parent Governors), we started scribbling away to try and get the structure of the site sorted, so we could make sure the userbility was spot on, before we even looked at any of the designs.

From there we looked at the actual logo being used by the school, and came up with something we feel captured the warm feeling that the school resonates, and also which would be usable as a letterhead, fax header etc. We cam up with the following:

From this as a starting point, we managed to map out the site, and get all of the inner pages designed.

We decided to build the site on WordPress, so the school would be able to manage the site themselves, and use the site as a useful communications tool. The finished site can be found at www.stamfordparkinfantschool.co.uk

The school loves it. The parents love it. And we love it.

Who says it’s hard to be nice?

Christmas Party 2009

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Christmas Party 2009For this years Christmas party, we made our annual hommage to our local for some amazing food. If you are ever in Altrincham, make sure you grab yourself something to eat at The Victoria, considering its a pub the food is amazing.

We then trawled the bars of Altrincham, before ending up in Hale, where we had our offices for a bit and ending up in the club that was called 161 and is now called something that i can’t remmeber.

Anyway as Christmas Parties go it was quite low on the incident count, with no fights, arguing, nakedness or any of that.

Charlie Stole the show with his shirt that you can see in the photo to the right.

Until next year.

WordPress is well known

WordPress is well known for its ease of installation. Under most circumstances installing WordPress is a very simple process and takes less than five minutes to complete. However, if you wish to install WordPress yourself, the following guide will help, and with WordPress 2.7 and future versions, upgrading is even easier.

Its September, generally the start of the downward spiral into the doom and gloom of the miserable british winter. Luckily we have a client for that! Our good friends at “thats my climate” came over and fixed it in a jiffy. So if you need your air conditioning fixing, you know where to go.

me.uk Domain name registration times

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Here’s a little snippet of info we picked up today whilst in conversation with Nominet. me.uk domains do not take longer to register than other domains, despite what some registrars will have you think.

The fact that in the who-is database it says “registering domain” for anything up to 3 months, this is actually to do with the registrar not paying for the domain yet.

I hope this helps someone else who has been baffled by it. Like it has myself for the past week.

Zoe gets a promotion over at Ratio

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

We have had a working relationship with Zoe at Ratiomoney.com for a while now, and we were pleased to find out that she has been promoted.

The firm, which recently announced the creation of 125 new jobs, helps people who have been ripped off by banks and lenders with mis-sold payment protection insurance, excessive bank charges, unfair credit agreements and flawed mortgage offers.

Zoe Nicholls originally worked for the Cheshire-based company as a part-time business development manager.

Now full time, she has built and manages a network of over 1,000 introducers. Accounting for 70 per cent of the company’s business, the introducer network sells claims management services that are then handled by Ratio Money.

Zoe, who previously ran her own successful property business in Spain, is now being promoted to the board as a business development director.

Bobby Robson Quotes

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

We were sad to hear about the legend that is Bobby Robson passing away today. So here are some genius quotes that will always make us smile.

“We put some good subs on to hang onto the fort.”

“Tottenham have impressed me – they haven’t thrown in the towel even though they’ve been under the gun.”

“When Gazza was dribbling, he used to go through a minefield with his arm, a bit like you go through a supermarket.”

It’s not widely appreciated that he’s the Cassius Clay of modern times. Who else in the world of sport can compose an amusing poetic ditty off the cuff?

“They’ve probably played better than they’ve ever done for a few weeks.”

“Ray Wilkins’ day will come one night.”

“I’m not going to look beyond the semi-final – but I would love to lead Newcastle out at the final.”

“He never fails to hit the target. But that was a miss.’

“Maybe not goodbye, but farewell.”

“We didn’t underestimate them. They were just a lot better than we thought.”

“In a year’s time, he’s a year older.”

“The margin is very marginal.”

“Mehmet Scholl is very two footed.“

“Their football was exceptionally good – and they played some good football.”

“Nobby Solano discharged himself from hospital after the Tottenham game and he’s driving, living the life and aware of who he is.”

“We can’t replace Gary Speed. Where do you get an experienced player like him with a left foot and a head?”

“Gary Speed has never played better, never looked fitter, never been older.”

“Everton will want to sedate Wayne Rooney and keep the boy calm, and that is the right thing to do.”

“If you count your chickens before they’ve hatched, they won’t lay an egg.”

“Alan Shearer has done very well for us, considering his age. We have introduced some movement into his game because he has got two good legs now. Last season he played with one leg.”

“He has four lungs and two hearts – no doubt about it.”

“Newcastle have always had a poor pitch in winter. We don’t have the better weather. My lawn up here isn’t as good as my lawn in Ipswich.”

“I’ve just lost my house. I don’t know where I’m going to sleep tonight.”

“Football’s like a big market place, and people go to the market every day to buy their vegetables.”

“People want success. It’s like coffee, they want instant.”

“No team won anything without a dodgy keeper.”

“The first ninety minutes of a football match are the most important.”

“Well, we got nine and you can’t score more than that.”

”The first ninety minutes of a football match are the most important.”

“I do want to play the short ball and I do want to play the long ball. I think long and short
balls is what football is all about.”

“He’s very fast and if he gets a yard ahead of himself nobody will catch him.”

“Titus Brambell had a very good game, which will silence all the boo-boys, and put them in the drink, and we can get on with our lives.”

“We are all in the same bucket.”

“I’ve had to come out of the dressing room because I don’t want to get too excited.”

Big News, MSN Merges with Yahoo

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Today it has been confirmed that Yahoo.com as a portal will be powered by Bing and Yahoo Search Marketing, will be merged into Microsoft adCenter. In case you have not been following Bing is the name of MSN search these days, and on the majority of new computers before everyone realises and changes it to Google.

The coming together with Yahoo will massively enhance Bing’s market share, but at a significant cost to Microsoft in terms of revenues from search marketing. This is great news for creativesuit clients as most of our sites rank really really well in Bing. So expect more traffic.

We’ll keep an eye on your stats and what not and see if we see a massive surge in visitors from this new super search engine.

Stop Iphoto opening when Iphone is connected

Category: Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Every time I plugged in my iPhone, it had this nasty habit of opening iPhoto for me. Not because it wanted to drive me to drink, but because iPhoto is set to open any time a digital camera is connected to my computer – which, technically, an iPhone is.

To stop this behavior, you won’t find any preference in iTunes or iPhoto, where you would normally think to look. This little gem can be found in a separate application in your Applications folder called Image Capture.

Open Image Capture and go to the Preferences menu (under the Image Capture menu item). Under the General tab, change the option for “When a camera is connected…â€? to “No Applicationâ€? instead of “iPhotoâ€?.

Image Capture Preferences

This means you’ll have to manually start iPhoto when you connect your digital camera, but you won’t have to CLOSE iPhoto every time you plug in your iPhone (which, for me, is a heck of a lot more often than plugging in a camera!)
